Badami

A trip to Badami with Christian, Natalie, Nels, Rob and Camillo. My last weekend in India, and easily the best, at least in terms of coolness of the sights we have seen. The country around Badami looks like Arizona a little bit - red rocks, towers, piles, cliffs, and mountains made out of red rocks. There are caves, both natural and man-made, that contain ancient temples in these mountains. These are remnants of Chalukya empire from 4th-5th century. The main site in Badami, is a lake surrounded by quite spectacular mountains, steep, almost bare mountains. The lake itself is still used for washing clothes. There are two other sites with many old Hindu temples nearby, Aihole and Pattadakkal.
